Three Months!

She's already three months! Ah! I feel like the saying is so true: the days seem long, but the time is going by so quickly! This month her bed time routine changed. Since she was born, Steve would swaddle her at bedtime and then bounce her on our exercise ball til she fell asleep. One night she just decided she was done with that and now we just walk and bounce her til she's asleep. It made me so sad to see that routine end - it was so sweet!

Penny also got her first cold at 11 weeks. I got sick first, then Steve so it was inevitable that she'd get it as well. Thankfully it wasn't too bad (just a little runny nose and cough) and she was back to normal in a few days. **side note: I feel like my immune system hasn't worked since I got pregnant - I get sick all the time now!

We also had our first holiday with just the three of us during Thanksgiving. I just wasn't feeling confident enough to travel with Penny and I was still recovering, so we decided to stay in Lubbock this year. Penny was very interested in Steve's prep of the turkey (I told Steve we could get one even though there were only two of us that would eat it if he was the one that cleaned and prepped it!). Unfortunately this is the day I started getting sick and Steve felt sick the next day, so we didn't get to eat as much of the leftovers as we would have liked!

She was really into putting her fists under her chin like this for about two weeks. 

I've tried to get out for walks as much as possible since the weather in Lubbock is pretty mild at this time of year. Penny isn't a fan of her stroller, but she likes being in her carrier.

She's always had a really strong neck and good head control. tummy time hasn't been an issue for her! 

I was trying to show her the ducks at the park one day and she couldn't have cared less! She just wanted to chill with her sunglasses!

3 months! I love her little hand on the otter.

Two Months!

Penny was two months in November. She started to smile a tiny bit around six weeks and smiles more and more each day. She loves to stroke Steve's beard! She'll just reach up whenever he's near and start running her fingers through it!

She officially grew out of her newborn clothes and diapers at five weeks. I got WAY more sad about it than I thought I would - she's already getting so big!

At her doctor appointment she got her first round of vaccines. She was definitely mad about getting the shots and screamed and cried, but she calmed down pretty quickly after I picked her up and handled things pretty well after that. She just slept a lot. Poor girl. She also had to get an oral vaccine for rotavirus and the nurse warned us that some babies gag on it and hate it. Penny just decided to spit it out. That surprised the nurse! Haha!

Two month stats:
10 lbs 2 oz (25th percentile - up from the 10th percentile!)
22.25 inches (50th percentile)
15 inch head (50th percentile)

Penny LOVES to watch football...it's a problem.

She learned how to sit in her bumbo chair! 

I got an electric piano with gift money I had saved up!!! I felt like I was loosing the ability that I had to play, even though I'm not super great. I wanted to be able to practice so I didn't lose it completely. 

Seconds before Penny scared herself to death with her own fart! Her arms flew out and she did her angry cry and everything. It was SO funny (and kinda sad)! Haha!

Penny's Blessing

We blessed Penny on the 8th of November when she was seven weeks old. Both our parents were able to be here for it - the Pepers for a few days before and the Higgins for a few days after that Sunday! It worked out so that we had guests for a whole week, which was so nice!

The blessing was planned for the 8th before Penny was born so that our parents could get time off work and buy plane tickets and what not. A few weeks after she was born they announced that that Sunday was going to be a regional conference, so we wouldn't have regular meetings and therefore couldn't bless her at church. So we ended up having to bless her at home. I was SO disappointed. It was still a great blessing from Steve and we really enjoyed the visit with our parents.

Penny was not a happy camper before the blessing and was screaming and crying, but as soon as Steve took her and started talking she was fine. My favorite thing was that she would reply to him each time he paused to think about what he'd say next during the blessing. Steve would talk, then Penny would babble back, then Steve would talk and Penny would babble back - so so cute!

Steve said at the beginning of the blessing that even though she wouldn't remember the words, her spirit would be able to pull strength from the blessing throughout her life. I really like that. Other blessing highlights:
- Have a humble heart that's anxious to learn
- A desire to seek after all that is good
- Develop a love for the Savior
- Gain an understanding of the role you play in our family and Heavenly Father's plan
- Physical abilities and strength to overcome the difficulties that come your way
- Pull from the faith developed of the Savior - this strength not only for you, but for your family also
- Look for those who need you as a friend
- Know the love your family has for you and the savior has for you
- You were sent to earth to be with us

I left Penny (with someone besides Steve for 15 minutes) for the very first time. I had a doctors appointment, so Jill and Randy took care of Penny for a little over an hour. It was hard! I sat in the waiting room at the doctors and looked at pictures of her the whole time, but I didn't cry. :) And I got a little smile when I got back, which was so cute and made me feel good!

Playing games one night

We went to a really fun escape room called Trapped! We were one clue away from making it out. I was sad we didn't get all the way out, but I felt better knowing how far we got. I definitely want to go back again (in a different room of course).

Penny obviously got a ton of love on this trip and we loved having everyone!
