April

April was a fun month! We are finally feeling settled in our new place and getting out of the house now that I'm having more good days than bad with sickness. A few fun things I wanted to remember about Penny:

- She sings the church song "I am a Child of God" at the top of her lungs when we sing any hymn at church. She wants to participate so badly, but those are the only words she knows!
- It has really been warming up here (Way too early for me!) and she is refusing to wear shorts or sandals! Only her little moccasin shoes with pants. At least I've got her into short sleeve shirts I guess...
- Call DVDs "dee bee dee bees"
- Starts most of her statements/conversations with "know what?" It's funny to hear her wondering around the house after Steve saying "Hey Dad, know what?" and then just saying whatever is on her mind!
- We had some individually packaged donuts and Penny and Steve had split one for breakfast (among other food). She was really wanting another one and we told her no, so she marched over and grabbed the box of the counter, brought it in front of us and slammed another donut down. Then, staring us down and wagging her finger says "Dis mines. Don't touch!" and went and put the box back. Steve and I didn't know how to react and just kind of sat there til she came back and started eating it.

I handed Penny this alphabet book one day when we were driving home from the store and told her to find the "P" - the only letter she recognizes! About 10 minutes later I hear a frustrated sigh and Penny throws her hands up saying "I can't find the P!" I had no idea she had been looking that whole time!

She's been really into painting lately!

My parents sent Penny a science kit and she was SO excited! It has been a lot of fun to play with! Her favorite activity was squeezing water droplets onto a Penny until the surface tension gave out and it spilled everywhere.

Love this little driver!

Her new favorite place to go - Menchies frozen yogurt! She discovered they have an insane amount of candy options to put on top of her frozen yogurt.

Steve has been gone a lot lately and Penny has been struggling with that. One day he had a student competition where he did an oral presentation as well as the poster competition. Penny was happy to carry his poster and send him off, but then lost it when he left! Steve ended up winning 1st place in the poster contest and 2nd in the oral presentation portion. Pretty dang good!

"My dadda come home! My dadda come home!"

Steve with his prize winning poster!

We also FINALLY weened Penny off her pacifiers. They disappeared one by one until she only had "roar" - her favorite dinosaur paci. It was a bit of a rough transition, but we convince her she needed to send it to "baby Drake" (Gin's new little guy). She got SO SOOOOO sad the first night with no paci that I ended up cutting off the sucking portion of roar and telling her it was a new "little roar" that she could sleep with. That helped a lot, but she couldn't actually use it, so I think it was a good compromise!

Improvising a paci from Mr. Potato Head's nose!
We also had Steve's department banquet at the end of the month. We ended up cleaning up during the raffle portion and won several gift cards to different restaurants! Yay for "free" date nights!
Steve's lab who he has worked closely with the past two years. Katie, Steve, Dr. Presley, Alex, Hannah. He really enjoyed this group!
